Buttermilk Trail is one of the many trails within the James River Park. This 2.5-mile trail was named for the milkmen who used to store buttermilk in a cool well that is still located on the side of the trail. You’ll find this trail parallel to the south side of the James River. The trail features several creek crossings, bridges and rock gardens. In fact, it’s one of the most beloved trail systems to hike on in the Richmond area!

Virginia Capital Trail
